Day 124 at the 16th St. Plaza East side of Mission St. resists change

San Francisco, CALocal News

The Department of Public Works and the San Francisco Police Department maintained a clear west side of Mission Street over the weekend, aided by outreach team Ahsing. Despite these efforts, unpermitted vending and open drug use returned to the northeast plaza and east side by Sunday evening, raising concerns about public safety. Earlier on Sunday, Ahsing crews collected trash along Capp Street, prompting vendors to leave the area temporarily. Police arrested an individual on Caledonia Street Saturday morning, indicating continued enforcement activity. The presence of two BART trucks and cleaning crews initially helped keep the area tidy.

However, the effectiveness of these measures waned as crews departed, and illicit activities resumed. The ongoing struggle to maintain cleanliness and safety in this part of San Francisco reflects broader issues facing urban communities. The concerted efforts by city agencies and outreach teams remain crucial in addressing these persistent challenges.
