Trump admin. has fired four S.F. immigration judges since April
The Trump administration fired four immigration judges from San Francisco's immigration court, including Ila Deiss, whose asylum approval rate stood at 93. 7 percent. Judges Roger Dinh, Elisa Brasil, and Jami Vigil were also let go, resulting in nine vacancies across 26 courtrooms. Nationwide, at least 17 immigration judges have been dismissed since Monday, according to a union representing them. Notably, Deiss and the two other judges had approval rates exceeding the national average of 42.
3 percent. The firings coincide with reports of ICE routinely arresting asylum-seekers during court proceedings, raising concerns about the treatment of vulnerable individuals. Milli Atkinson, an immigration specialist, confirmed another judge's dismissal in Concord this week. The Executive Office for Immigration Review declined to comment on the firings. This series of dismissals may signal a shift in immigration policy under the current administration.
