Day 124 at the 16th St. Plaza East side of Mission St. resists change
For the second weekend, city officials, including the Department of Public Works and the San Francisco Police Department, kept the west side of Mission Street clear. However, by Sunday evening, unpermitted vending and drug use returned to the northeast plaza and east side after cleaning crews and police left. Earlier, the Ahsing outreach team effectively collected trash along Capp Street, encouraging some vendors to leave the area. Authorities arrested an individual on Caledonia Street Saturday morning, reflecting ongoing enforcement efforts. Despite these measures, illicit activities continue to pose challenges for the community.
The persistence of such issues underscores the need for consistent city support and outreach in the Mission District. Cleaning crews and police are vital for maintaining public safety and order in the area. Community engagement and collaboration may be necessary to effect lasting change.
