A true hero Sonoma County Sheriffs K-9 Scout remembered after end of watch

Scout, a K-9 with the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, died on July 21, 2025, after serving the department for five years. He worked alongside Sgt. Daniel Negri, contributing to numerous arrests and narcotics seizures, including a significant operation in 2017 that led to the capture of two fugitives. The Sheriff’s Office honored Scout as a “true hero” and highlighted his bravery and dedication. After retiring, Scout lived a happy life with the Negri family, reflecting the bond often formed between K-9s and their handlers.

Community members took to social media to express their condolences, acknowledging the vital role K-9s play in law enforcement. User Lorraine Cheli commented on the Sheriff’s Facebook post, expressing sorrow for the loss and gratitude for the work of K-9s. The Sheriff’s Office concluded their tribute with a heartfelt message: “Run wild and free. ” The community’s response underscores the deep appreciation for Scout’s service and the impact of K-9 programs in local law enforcement.
