Day 124 at the 16th St. Plaza East side of Mission St. resists change

San Francisco, CALocal News

The Department of Public Works and the San Francisco Police Department kept the west side of Mission Street clear for the second consecutive weekend, successfully curbing disturbances. Temporary cleanliness on the east side and northeast plaza was achieved with the assistance of BART trucks and cleaning crews. However, by Sunday evening, unpermitted vending and open drug use resurfaced as cleanup efforts concluded. The west side remained clear throughout the weekend, supported by the presence of police and outreach teams. Earlier on Sunday, the Ahsing team picked up trash along Capp Street, which prompted vendors to leave the area.

Police arrested an individual on Caledonia Street Saturday morning, indicating ongoing enforcement efforts. The city's approach reflects a broader aim to address public safety and cleanliness in the Mission District. Continued vigilance will be crucial as officials work to maintain order in the area.
