Day 124 at the 16th St. Plaza East side of Mission St. resists change

San Francisco, CALocal News

The Department of Public Works and the San Francisco Police Department effectively maintained a clear west side of Mission Street over the past two weekends. The outreach team Ahsing contributed to these efforts, although unpermitted vending and open drug use returned to the east side and northeast plaza by Sunday evening. Cleaning crews and BART trucks initially contributed to keeping the area tidy, but their departure led to a resurgence of illegal activities. Police arrested an individual on Caledonia Street on Saturday morning, highlighting ongoing concerns about safety and order. The Ahsing team actively picked up trash along Capp Street and the east side of Mission Street, prompting some vendors and loiterers to leave the area.

Despite these measures, challenges persist on the east side, where illegal activities resumed shortly after cleanup efforts ended. The situation underscores the need for continued monitoring and intervention to maintain public safety. Local residents and officials may need to consider more permanent solutions to address ongoing issues in the area.
