Sheriff identifies victims in 2 separate drownings over weekend in Sonoma County
Authorities identified two drowning victims from the weekend incidents in Sonoma County: Elan Miranda, 17, of Oakland, and Pranav Narain, 31, of San Francisco. Miranda drowned Sunday afternoon at Monte Rio Beach when a raft capsized while he and another teenager floated without lifejackets. A bystander managed to rescue one teen, but Miranda was missing for about 20 minutes before responders located him and performed CPR. Narain fell into the ocean while paddleboarding at Martinelli Beach, losing balance while standing on the board and not wearing a lifejacket. His companion attempted to save him but swam to shore to call for help when unable to reach him.
Emergency crews found Narain shortly after, but he was also pronounced dead at the scene. These tragic events highlight the critical importance of wearing lifejackets during water activities. Both cases serve as a reminder to prioritize safety to prevent further tragedies.
