Mayor Lurie's Statement on Board of Supervisors' Vote to Pass Plan to Tackle RV Homelessness

San Francisco, CALocal News

Mayor Daniel Lurie of San Francisco announced a comprehensive plan to tackle RV and vehicular homelessness following the Board of Supervisors' approval of his legislation. The initiative includes deploying specialized outreach teams equipped with language skills and trauma-informed care to assist those living in large vehicles. Eligible residents will receive tailored housing offers, supported by an expanded rapid rehousing subsidy program. Additionally, a large vehicle buyback program will provide cash incentives for residents to surrender their vehicles. The new Large Vehicle Refuge Permit Program will allow qualifying residents to park without penalty for a limited time, promoting engagement with city services.

Citywide enforcement of two-hour parking restrictions aims to maintain safe and accessible streets. Mayor Lurie noted the importance of compassion and accountability in addressing this persistent challenge. The administration will work closely with the Board of Supervisors and community partners to drive effective solutions and support the city's recovery.
