Castro Walgreens Manager Found Guilty of Assaulting Shoplifter and Lacerating His Eye
Guang Hong, the manager of a Walgreens in the Castro District of San Francisco, was found guilty of assault after injuring a shoplifter's eye during a confrontation on March 18. The manager punched the shoplifter in the face, using a key embedded in his knuckles, which led to significant injury. District Attorney Brooke Jenkins emphasized that while community frustration is valid, resorting to violence only exacerbates the situation. The shoplifter, whose name and current medical condition are not publicly known, faces charges of petty theft and battery. Hong, 46, is currently out of custody and will be sentenced on August 15.
