Green Fire North of Redding Grows to Over 12,000 Acres
The Green Fire has rapidly grown to around 11,766 acres and remains only 5% contained after two weeks of burning in Northern California’s Shasta National Forest. Ignited by a lightning strike on July 1, the fire has spread hazardous smoke across the area, impacting air quality in the city of Redding. Evacuations have been ordered in approximately 110 square miles of the sparsely populated forest, with a heat advisory in place until 11 PM Monday. While Lake Shasta remains accessible for recreational activities, the smoke has raised health concerns among residents. The larger Madre Fire in San Luis Obispo County continues to dominate the state's wildfire situation, having burned over 80,000 acres and achieved 86% containment.
Additionally, the Orleans Complex fire has affected over 7,300 acres since it began on July 9. Fire season commenced early this year, raising alarms for local authorities and residents. Officials are closely monitoring the situation as conditions remain volatile.
