Day 124 at the 16th St. Plaza East side of Mission St. resists change

San Francisco, CALocal News

The Department of Public Works and the San Francisco Police Department successfully kept the west side of Mission Street clear during the recent weekend. The Ahsing outreach team assisted by cleaning up trash along Capp Street, prompting vendors to disperse temporarily. However, unpermitted vending and open drug use resumed in the northeast plaza and on the east side once cleanup crews departed. By Sunday evening, the SFPD's Mobile Unit Two maintained a presence on the west side, but activities persisted on the east side. Police arrested an individual on Caledonia Street Saturday morning, indicating ongoing enforcement efforts.

The city has struggled with maintaining public order in this area, particularly regarding unpermitted activities. The presence of outreach teams like Ahsing reflects a proactive approach to address these challenges. Continued efforts will be necessary to ensure lasting changes and safety for residents and visitors.
