Air quality advisory extended to Monday as Bay Area firefighters join fight in NorCal
The Bay Area Air District extended an air quality advisory through Monday due to smoke from wildfires in the northern Sacramento Valley. The Green Fire, which started on July 1 in Shasta County, has burned about 9,563 acres and is only 5% contained. Firefighters from the Alameda County Fire Department and the San Francisco Fire Department are actively assisting in firefighting efforts. Another group of fires, known as the Orleans Complex, has burned an additional 5,843 acres with zero containment. Smoke is forecast to create potentially unhealthy conditions, especially in the North Bay and East Bay regions.
Residents are advised to stay indoors and close doors and windows while smoke levels are high. The Air District noted that current pollution levels are not expected to surpass the threshold for a Spare the Air Alert. Monitoring air quality is recommended through the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency’s website.
