Day 124 at the 16th St. Plaza East side of Mission St. resists change

San Francisco, CALocal News

The Department of Public Works and the San Francisco Police Department maintained a clear west side of Mission Street over the last two weekends, supported by the outreach team Ahsing. Despite initial cleanliness on the east side and northeast plaza, these areas fell back into chaos with unpermitted vending and open drug use as cleaning crews departed. By Sunday evening, police presence remained on the west side, while drug-related activities continued unabated on the east side. Earlier that day, Ahsing's efforts to clean along Capp Street prompted many vendors to leave temporarily. On Saturday, police arrested an individual on Caledonia Street, indicating ongoing enforcement actions in the area.

The situation reflects ongoing challenges in managing public spaces amid rising concerns about safety and cleanliness. Ahsing's outreach efforts emphasize the necessity of community involvement in maintaining order. Continued police presence and cleanup initiatives are critical to addressing the persistent issues affecting Mission Street.
