Proposed building in SF would surpass Salesforce Tower as city's tallest skyscraper

San Francisco, CALocal News

San Francisco is set to build the tallest skyscraper on the West Coast, with plans for a structure exceeding 1,200 feet. The Hines company has applied to redevelop the block where PG&E headquarters once stood, a move welcomed by Supervisor Matt Dorsey. He noted that the project is significant for both the city and the local neighborhood. The planned development will include luxury office space, residential units, new retail options, and entertainment amenities. Despite a high office vacancy rate of 35%, there is notable demand for premium office spaces driven by the tech industry’s growth.

Leigh Lutenski from the San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development stated that many companies seek high-end Class-A office environments. The city is also working on converting vacant office spaces into multi-use and residential areas. The permissions and planning process for the skyscraper is expected to take one to two years.
