NorCal fireworks explosion raises questions about safety, status of Bay Area 4th of July shows

San Francisco, CALocal News

The recent explosion at a fireworks storage facility in Yolo County has raised safety concerns leading up to San Francisco's Fourth of July fireworks display. Pat Dyas from Pyro Spectaculars, responsible for the San Francisco show, stated that their fireworks are stored in hardened military magazines, ensuring safety during storage and transport. Extensive training and safety discussions among staff are standard practice, reflecting the seriousness with which they approach their work. Local visitors, such as the Bubnick family, expressed excitement about experiencing the fireworks for the first time. In contrast, some Bay Area cities that relied on the vendor in Yolo County had to cancel their shows, with San Jose quickly arranging a drone show instead.

The fireworks display in San Francisco will take place at 9:30 p. m. on July 4, with optimal viewing from Pier 39 and Fisherman's Wharf. Organizers remain hopeful for clear skies, as they prepare for a vibrant 20-minute show featuring new shells and synchronized patterns. The event underscores the community's resilience and commitment to celebrating Independence Day despite recent safety incidents.
