Stand with Joel campaign raises 536K. Still, its an uphill battle.

San Francisco, CALocal News

The “Stand with Joel Engardio” campaign has raised $536,000, outstripping the recall campaign's $161,000 contributions. Despite this financial edge, consultant Jim Ross warns that Engardio faces significant challenges as many constituents oppose Prop. K, which prompted the recall. Engardio won his seat in 2022 by a mere 469 votes, making his position precarious ahead of the September 16 election. The recall effort gathered 10,523 valid signatures, reflecting widespread discontent.

Ross points out that while funding allows for advertisements, Engardio must prioritize door-to-door engagement to rebuild relationships with voters. The recall has attracted more small-money donors, while the anti-recall campaign has concentrated wealth among fewer contributors. Engardio's previous support for Prop. K complicates his efforts, as many who once backed him now oppose him. The outcome remains uncertain, with only about 20,000 of the nearly 50,000 registered voters expected to turn out.
