Mission Station has a new police captain. But its unclear if hell stay.

San Francisco, CALocal News

Lieutenant Manny Bonilla has assumed the role of acting captain at the Mission District police station following Liza Johansen's unexpected exit. With 30 years of service in the San Francisco Police Department, Bonilla marks the sixth captain in five years at Mission Station. Johansen's tenure lasted just 10 months, during which she introduced a police mobile command unit at the 16th Street BART Plaza, aimed at addressing local street conditions. Despite some success in clearing immediate areas, the impact on nearby alleyways was minimal. Community members, including Supervisor Jackie Fielder, expressed disappointment over Johansen's departure, emphasizing the trust she built in the Mission.

Bonilla’s background includes five years in the U. S. Marine Corps and various roles within the police department, including patrol officer and K9 specialist. The police department confirmed Bonilla's status as acting captain but did not clarify his permanence. They pledged to continue collaborating with the community to enhance public safety in the Mission Police District.
