JJ Smith, S.F. street videographer and provocateur, hit with restraining order
Kevin Jones, a former KPIX reporter, won a restraining order against Omar Ward, a San Francisco street videographer known for filming individuals experiencing homelessness and addiction. The order, issued by Judge Maria Morga, mandates that Ward must remain at least 50 yards away from Jones for two years, following a March incident where Ward filmed Jones in a vulnerable position. That same night, Jones' minivan was vandalized, which he believes is linked to Ward's actions. Jones described Ward as a "serial harasser" and expressed relief over the ruling, stating it lifted a weight off his shoulders. Ward, who has drawn support from conservative figures and gained notoriety for his provocative online presence, dismissed the court's ruling in a post on social media.
The Oakland Police Department is currently investigating the vandalism incident, which occurred on March 1, 2025. Jones hopes that this investigation will result in criminal charges against Ward. Ward has consistently denied any involvement in the vandalism, claiming to have recorded the actual perpetrator.
