Drag, joy and community light up PRIDE NightLife at California Academy of Sciences

PRIDE NightLife at the California Academy of Sciences attracted over 2,000 attendees, celebrating inclusivity with drag performances and local artists in advance of San Francisco's Pride festivities. The event featured a lively atmosphere, where attendees donned sequins and eccentric outfits while enjoying music from local DJs. Richie Lipton, the event producer, expressed pride in the community's support, noting the event's success in uniting diverse participants. The drag show, produced by the Oakland-based group Oaklash, showcased a range of performers, including drag kings and those from marginalized backgrounds. Co-founder Mama Celeste highlighted the political significance of queer performance, stating it provides a platform for trans and queer artists.

The event also served as a means to financially support performers, helping them meet basic living expenses. Lipton reinforced the idea that NightLife events should create a welcoming environment for all. Overall, PRIDE NightLife exemplified the celebration of LGBTQ+ culture and community.
