San Mateo County Sheriff Indicted By Civil Grand Jury on Counts of Retaliation and Conflict of Interest

San Francisco, CALocal News

Sheriff Christina Corpus has been indicted by a civil grand jury in San Mateo County on three counts of retaliation against employees and one count of conflict of interest. The indictment follows a month-long investigation that included testimony from 32 witnesses regarding her management practices, particularly concerning former Executive Director of Administration Victor Aenlle, with whom she allegedly had a personal relationship. Assistant Sheriff Ryan Monaghan, who was terminated last September, claims his firing was retaliation for his involvement in the investigation. The grand jury's report described a toxic workplace environment and noted that Corpus and Aenlle operated as a "cult of two. " In a statement, Corpus vehemently denies the allegations, labeling the investigation a politically motivated attack.

The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors has voted unanimously to initiate her removal process. Corpus insists she will remain in office and fight against what she describes as unjust persecution. The outcome of the ongoing legal proceedings remains uncertain, as she may also face criminal charges if removed from her position.
