La Mar unveils 1st major revamp in 17 years

San Francisco, CALocal News

La Mar Cocina Peruana in San Francisco revealed a significant redesign and new menu on June 27, 2025, marking its first major revamp in 17 years. The restaurant's new decor features ocean-inspired elements, including cyan ceramic tiles and indigo-dyed banquettes, enhancing the ambiance for diners. Chef Gastón Acurio and executive chef Victoriano Lopez have introduced dishes inspired by Lopez's recent trip to Peru, including the $129 La Grand Bandeja Cebichera and the $34 Tiradito al Olivo with crispy octopus. The revamped space also includes a semi-private chef's table that offers views of the kitchen and the waterfront patio. La Mar operates daily at Pier 1 ½ on the Embarcadero, although hours may vary.

The changes reflect a commitment to celebrate and elevate Peruvian culinary traditions. The restaurant aims to attract both new customers and loyal patrons with its fresh offerings and improved atmosphere. This redesign comes at a time when many dining establishments are seeking to enhance their appeal amid a competitive restaurant landscape.
