2 more ex-guards from former FCI Dublin womens prison charged with sexual abuse

San Francisco, CALocal News

Two former correctional officers, Jeffrey Wilson and Lawrence Gacad, have been charged with sexual abuse of female prisoners at the now-closed Federal Correctional Institution in Dublin. Wilson faces five counts of sexual abuse related to incidents occurring between March and August 2022, while Gacad is charged with one count of abusive sexual contact for incidents between March and June 2022. This latest round of charges brings the total to ten guards accused of sex crimes at the facility. The investigation has led to two sexual abuse-related convictions, with five additional guards pleading guilty and one more awaiting trial. The prison has been labeled a “rape club” due to the extensive abuse reported, including the exploitation of immigrant women.

It closed in December 2022 after independent assessments revealed hazardous mold and asbestos. Federal officials are considering repurposing the site to house immigrant detainees arrested by U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The facility would require significant repairs estimated in the tens of millions before it could reopen safely.
