San Quentin dad grieves devastating loss of daughter after sharing a final dance with her

San Francisco, CALocal News

Tiara Embrey, 28, died in a head-on traffic collision on June 8, just two months after a heartfelt dance with her father, Steven Embrey, at San Quentin Rehabilitation Center. Steven, currently serving a 50-year sentence, received the news while playing cards in prison, expressing deep grief over the loss of his only daughter. The dance, part of the prison's inaugural Parenting Prom, allowed him to create lasting memories with Tiara, including a TikTok dance down the red carpet. He highlighted their bond, emphasizing her reasonable expectation for him to return home despite his incarceration. The prison administration is actively seeking approval for Steven to attend her funeral, scheduled for Friday in Oakland, as he wishes for one last moment with her.

Tiara was known for her achievements, such as operating a daycare, and her death has left many children she cared for heartbroken. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation recognizes the importance of family connections for incarcerated individuals, which contributes to rehabilitation efforts. Steven's scheduled resentencing in August adds another layer of complexity to his family's tragedy.
