Day 105 at the 16th St. Plaza A two-day effort makes a difference
The Department of Public Works and police improved Mission Street’s cleanliness over two days of focused efforts. On Tuesday, the west side appeared clearer, with vending activities moved to the east side, indicating a shift in public space management. A barricade at La Fénix kept the area clear temporarily, although two men engaged in a quick exchange during that time. By evening, the barricade had been overturned; however, fewer individuals occupied the sidewalks compared to previous days. The visible presence of city workers, with at least half a dozen counted throughout the day, contributed to this progress.
Jose Velazquez, a local observer, noted four workers during the morning shift. This initiative aligns with the city’s broader goal of enhancing public safety and accessibility. Continuous monitoring and enforcement will be crucial to sustaining these improvements.
