Ethics Review Board throws out complaint against San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones

San Antonio, TXLocal News

The San Antonio Ethics Review Board unanimously dismissed a complaint against Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones concerning her outreach to the Democratic National Committee for the 2028 Democratic National Convention. The complaint, lodged by former Bexar County Republican Party vice chair Kyle Sinclair, alleged that Jones misused city resources by using official letterhead in her correspondence. Former City Attorney Frank Garza highlighted that Sinclair's remarks suggested a politically motivated agenda, questioning the validity of the complaint. He pointed out that if writing to the DNC on city stationery constituted a violation, the same standard should be applied to invitations sent to the Republican National Committee. Additionally, testimony revealed that the DNC had requested Jones to submit a bid for the convention, contradicting the assertion that Jones initiated the communication.

Jones, who was not present at the meeting, thanked the ERB for their decision and reaffirmed her focus on representing all San Antonians. She emphasized her dedication to exploring opportunities that would benefit the city. The ruling reflects ongoing tensions in local politics and the scrutiny public officials face regarding their actions.
