Happy Foundation Archives presentation to offer look at San Antonios LGBTQ history
The Thousand Oaks Library will host “Happy Foundation Archives: Preserving San Antonio’s LGBTQ Past” on Tuesday, Sept. 23, from 5:30 to 6:30 p. m. This event is designed to highlight the LGBTQ+ history of San Antonio through previously guarded archives maintained by the late artist and activist Eugene Elder. The Happy Foundation honors Arthur P.
“Hap” Veltman, a significant figure in local development who died of AIDS complications in 1988. Veltman played a crucial role in shaping the city through projects like the River Walk and Blue Star Arts Complex. Local historians and the community will find this presentation particularly valuable for understanding the rich history of LGBTQ+ activism in San Antonio. This initiative underscores the importance of preserving marginalized histories for future generations. Attendees will have the chance to interact with historical materials that reflect decades of local experiences.
The event is free, making it accessible to all interested in exploring this critical aspect of the city’s identity.
