Trinity University lands 25M from family of beer magnate Carlos Alvarez for new arts school
Trinity University received a $25 million donation from the Malú and Carlos Alvarez Family to establish the Carlos Alvarez School of Arts and Humanities. The funding will endow the dean's position, create scholarships, and support undergraduate research, internships, and global study initiatives. Additionally, the funds will facilitate the development of endowed professorships and enhance faculty recruitment. Carlos Alvarez, the late founder of Gambrinus Co. , was a prominent philanthropist, having made significant contributions to various institutions, including a $20 million gift to UTSA.
Trinity President Vanessa B. Beasley stated that this generous contribution highlights the value of arts and humanities in education. The Alvarez family has been a supporter of Trinity for almost two decades, launching programs that promote cultural exchange and research. John Brozovich, Alvarez’s son-in-law, remarked on the importance of education and the arts in understanding ourselves and others. This investment ensures that future students will benefit from a robust arts and humanities curriculum.
