San Antonio Spurs launch pro-arena campaign ahead of November ballot question
Spurs Sports & Entertainment will officially launch a campaign this Saturday to support a proposed $1. 3 billion downtown arena in San Antonio. The "WinTogether Campaign Kick Off" rally will take place at Idle Beer Hall & Brewery, featuring the Spurs Coyote Hype Squad and various special guests. The initiative aims to rally local residents to vote in favor of propositions A and B in the November ballot. Proposition A requests $191.
8 million for upgrades to the Frost Bank Center and Freeman Coliseum, while Proposition B proposes a 2% increase in the visitor tax to cover $311 million of the arena's total cost. The city has pledged $489 million to the project, which hinges on the approval of Proposition B. If voters reject the funding, the city’s agreement will be nullified, leading to a possible renegotiation with the team. The campaign's launch follows a Labor Day rally where community groups demanded benefits from the Spurs in exchange for public funding. This push for a new arena reflects ongoing discussions about the financial implications of sports facilities in urban areas.
