Renton, WA couple looks to move after claiming years of homophobic harassment

Renton, WALocal News

A Renton couple is seeking a new home after enduring years of homophobic harassment, including slurs and a recent attempted break-in. Fernando Vega reported that a group targeted his sister's room, and when he confronted them, he was shot multiple times with an airsoft gun. The Renton Police Department is currently investigating the incidents, which have escalated over time. Vega's Ring camera recorded earlier harassment, including the theft of a Pride flag in the summer of 2023. Despite an apology from the boy's parents, the harassment continued, culminating in the recent break-in attempt.

Vega and his family have started a GoFundMe campaign to help cover moving costs, aiming to relocate to a more accepting community. This situation underscores the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals and the urgent need for safer living environments. The couple's plight reflects broader societal issues regarding acceptance and safety for marginalized groups.
