Northbound I-405 to close between Renton and Bellevue, WA, this weekend

Renton, WALocal News

Northbound I-405 will close this weekend from 11:30 p. m. Friday, June 13, to 4 a. m. Monday, June 16, affecting travel between Renton and Bellevue.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) warns drivers to expect delays and encourages them to use alternative routes. Multiple northbound on- and off-ramps will also be closed, including the Sunset Boulevard Northeast on-ramp and the Northeast 30th Street on- and off-ramps. This closure supports WSDOT's I-405 Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes project, which aims to alleviate congestion and improve safety. The project will add a lane in each direction and establish a two-lane express toll system, connecting with existing toll systems. The construction represents a significant investment in infrastructure, aiming to enhance travel reliability along one of the state's busiest corridors.

WSDOT advises drivers to travel during off-peak hours and plan their trips accordingly. The improvements are expected to benefit daily commuters significantly once completed.
