VIDEO King County, WA deputies pursue, pit suspected DUI driver on I-405

Renton, WALocal News

Deputies with the King County Sheriff's Office arrested a suspected DUI driver after a pursuit that began in Federal Way early in the morning on April 26. The driver was reportedly swerving into oncoming traffic and traveling at 80 mph in a 35 mph zone, prompting police intervention. Dashcam footage captured the deployment of a StarChase tracking device just prior to executing a PIT maneuver on I-405. Once the vehicle was stopped, deputies pulled the 28-year-old suspect from the car, which contained an open case of beer and multiple beer caps. He now faces charges for DUI and attempting to evade law enforcement.

The King County Sheriff's Office has used StarChase technology six times this year, resulting in four felony arrests. This method allows for tracking without maintaining visual contact during high-speed chases. Such incidents raise discussions about the effectiveness and safety of using technology in law enforcement pursuits.
