Renton, WA offering outreach ahead of camp cleanup on Cedar River Trail
Renton officials are proactively engaging with encampments along the Cedar River ahead of planned cleanup efforts. Officers inform residents that they have about two weeks to accept available resources or find alternative camping locations. Sgt. Denis Moynihan reported that a drone mapping project identified 27 camps in the area. The outreach team, which includes Clorissa Lewis-Newell, aims to connect individuals with life-saving services and emphasizes humane treatment for those living in the encampments.
Residents are warned of potential legal consequences if they do not leave by the cleanup date. The initiative reflects a city-wide effort to improve safety in outdoor spaces as warmer weather approaches. Officers plan to maintain a presence in the area with at least two patrols daily. Renton also hopes to implement additional recreational trails as part of its long-term safety strategy.
