The Renton Police Department recently held a council meeting where they awarded Life-Saving Medals to several officers for their courageous actions in life-threatening situations. Chief Schultz presented the medals, emphasizing the importance of these awards in recognizing the officers' dedication to community safety. Officers Ettinger, Ragosa, and Smith were specifically honored for their prompt response to a shooting incident on July 12, where they provided vital medical assistance to a victim with multiple gunshot wounds. Their quick actions were crucial in stabilizing the victim until emergency medics arrived. The meeting also recognized the valor of Officers Edlund, Adam, and Sulbert, who responded to an active shooter incident, earning them the Meritorious Service Medal.

Detective Kevin Lane was named Officer of the Year for his exemplary service and dedication. Chief Schultz also introduced Wally, a therapy canine who will aid both officers and community members in dealing with trauma. The department aims to further strengthen community relations and wellness initiatives moving forward.
