This Week in Renton Middle housing update online open house

Renton, WALocal News

Washington State is grappling with a significant housing shortage, necessitating over one million new units to accommodate ongoing population growth. To tackle this issue, the state legislature has enacted House Bill 1110, aimed at promoting the development of middle housing, which is characterized by its efficient use of land and affordability. The Renton Community and Economic Development Department will host an online open house on March 1 to keep the public informed about the implementation of HB 1110, summarizing the draft ordinance as the city moves towards adopting these crucial new standards. In addition to housing initiatives, Startup425 is actively supporting local entrepreneurs through a series of events, including a free monthly gathering on February 27 at Renton Technical College, which will provide resources for business development. Furthermore, Startup425 is currently accepting applications for its 15-week Accelerator Program, designed to help new business founders refine their ideas and build essential skills for success.

This program is available to residents or those building businesses in partner cities, including Renton, Bellevue, Issaquah, Kirkland, and Redmond. Interested entrepreneurs are encouraged to register and participate in these valuable opportunities. Feedback from the community is also sought to enhance the downtown experience in Renton, with a survey available until March 10.
