New fire station, police station and expanded library planned for Pullman
The Pullman City Council recently approved plans for a new fire station, police station, and the remodeling of the Neill Public Library during a regular meeting. The fire station, which will cost $11 million, aims to enhance emergency response times in the northeast quadrant and support the town’s growing population, with construction expected to begin in 2028. The police department facility, with an estimated cost of $10 million, will alleviate overcrowding and address rising maintenance expenses of the current building. The remodeling of the Neill Public Library, projected at nearly $8. 4 million, addresses increased service demands and outdated systems, with construction also anticipated to start in 2028.
The council also accepted a $900,000 donation for a memory garden at Lawson Gardens, designed for individuals with Alzheimer’s and dementia. This donation underscores community engagement, as it is the second significant gift from resident Elinor McCloskey. Pullman voters previously approved a $10. 5 million bond in 2018 for the fire station, highlighting ongoing public support for these projects. These initiatives demonstrate Pullman's commitment to improving essential services for its residents.
