Bovill man sentenced to 4 years for assault charge
A Latah County judge sentenced Dane Clark, 41, to four years in prison for aggravated assault after he pointed a loaded shotgun at a family member while intoxicated. The court imposed a two-year fixed and two-year indeterminate sentence, with the possibility of early probation contingent on successful completion of a rider program for mental health and substance abuse treatment. Judge Megan Marshall recognized Clark's long history of drug addiction and trauma but firmly stated that there is “no excuse” for his actions. Additionally, she issued a five-year no-contact order with certain family members to ensure their safety. Clark's behavior was classified as a “horrific incident,” and the judge expressed concern about his potential to re-offend.
Marshall emphasized the importance of addressing his substance abuse and mental health issues through the treatment program. Clark declined to make a statement during the hearing. This case highlights the ongoing challenges of addiction and its impact on family safety in the community.
