City of Providence Announces Reinstallation of Fox Point Hurricane Barrier Gates

Providence, RILocal News

The City of Providence will implement partial lane closures on Allens Avenue from May 12 to June 13, 2025, for the reinstallation of the Fox Point Hurricane Barrier Gates. Mayor Brett P. Smiley and the Department of Public Works confirmed that this phase follows extensive off-site repairs to the gates, which are crucial for the city's storm protection. The reinstallation aims to enhance the operational integrity of these gates, vital for Providence's resilience against hurricanes and coastal storms. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction during weekdays, with potential detours planned between May 27 and June 6 for safety reasons.

Northbound traffic will divert to Blackstone Street, while southbound traffic will reroute to Eddy Street. This project underscores the city's commitment to maintaining critical infrastructure. No traffic impact is expected from work at the Manchester Street Power Station, which will remain confined to the property. Updates will be shared through the City of Providence’s communication channels, including the 311 system.
