Former employee of Naval Undersea Warfare Center accused of threatening co-workers, police
A former employee of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, located in Middletown, Rhode Island, has been charged with making threatening phone calls to former colleagues and police officers. The 38-year-old Newport resident faces serious allegations of transmitting threats in interstate commerce, with incidents reported between July 2022 and February 2023. According to Acting U. S. Attorney Sara Miron Bloom, he made numerous menacing calls to at least eight former colleagues, including a voicemail threatening to kill a colleague and their spouse.
In addition to targeting his former coworkers, the defendant allegedly made multiple threatening calls to the Portsmouth Police Department, where he expressed that an officer and his wife would face dire consequences. Statements like "write down (name of officer's wife) is dead" were part of his disturbing messages. Following a court appearance, he was released under GPS monitoring and prohibited from contacting the alleged victims. This case has drawn attention due to its serious implications for workplace safety and the role of law enforcement in addressing threats. The FBI, along with several local police departments, is investigating the matter thoroughly.
