ICE vehicle had emergency lights on when it ran a red light before collision, police say

Providence, RILocal News

On October 14, a vehicle operated by a federal agent with U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement ran a red light while its emergency lights were activated, leading to a collision in Providence. The crash sent the ICE vehicle crashing into a telephone pole, which snapped and fell onto another vehicle, a white car. Witnesses described seeing the ICE vehicle follow an unmarked vehicle through the intersection at Chalkstone Avenue and Raymond Street.

The police report, heavily redacted, only identifies the ICE vehicle as belonging to the U. S. government and does not reveal the drivers' identities. Footage from the scene captured agents in tactical gear, highlighting the presence of federal personnel. This incident echoes a previous crash involving ICE agents in July, where accusations arose regarding local police cooperation with federal enforcement.

The ongoing scrutiny of ICE's operations and their interaction with local law enforcement continues to be a significant concern. Investigators are looking into the circumstances surrounding the emergency response protocols of federal agents during such incidents.
