City of Providence Announces Winter Rates for Providence Community Electricity Program
The City of Providence has set a new winter electricity rate of 14. 690 ¢/kWh for the Providence Community Electricity program, which will begin with the November 2025 meter read. This rate represents a 10% decrease from last winter and includes a 5% increase in renewable energy sourced from local projects, such as wind turbines and solar facilities in Rhode Island. Mayor Brett P. Smiley highlighted the importance of the program in providing affordable, renewable energy while supporting residents in managing their electricity expenses.
Current participants will automatically receive the new pricing without needing to take additional steps. The program, which collaborates with six other municipalities, plays a crucial role in reducing the city's carbon footprint by displacing over 14. 5 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions annually. Low-Income Discount Rates and LIHEAP are available to assist eligible residents in managing their energy bills. The program aims to promote sustainability and resilience in Providence as it confronts climate change challenges.
Residents interested in joining can find information on the program's website.
