911 events and commemorations RI set to honor September 11th
Rhode Island will commemorate the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks with several events on September 11. The first ceremony will occur at the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery from 9 to 11 a. m. , where veterans and community members will remember the victims and first responders. Following this, the 9/11 Memorial Garden in Warwick will host a moment of silence at 10:28 a.
m. to mark the North Tower's collapse. Ground Zero survivor Judy Cobden will address attendees at this public, disability-inclusive event. Furthermore, East Providence will hold its ceremony at City Hall Plaza at 10 a. m.
, featuring remarks from Governor Dan McKee and other local officials. The events are designed to honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost during the attacks and acknowledge the sacrifices of those combating terrorism worldwide. The "Ringing of the Four Fives," a firefighter tradition, will also be observed at some events to honor fallen firefighters. Rhode Island's commemorations reflect a commitment to remembering the past while fostering community resilience.
