School-Zone Speed Cameras to Begin Activation August 27
Providence will reactivate its Portable Camera Units in school zones starting August 27, 2025, enforcing speed limits during school hours. Drivers caught exceeding the limit by 11 mph or more will face a $50 fine. The cameras will operate Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 6 PM, targeting specific locations known for speed concerns. Initially activated in January 2018, these units aim to improve pedestrian safety and reduce traffic violations. Each violation undergoes a review process by both the Providence Police and Conduent, the vendor managing the cameras, ensuring accuracy before fines are issued.
Increased signage will be installed in areas where speed limits are enforced by the cameras. The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to enhance public safety in school zones. Providence officials emphasize the importance of compliance to protect children and other pedestrians in these busy areas.
