Newport Creamery will close in Garden City Center. Why and what we know.
Newport Creamery will close its Garden City Center location after 63 years due to a non-renewed lease, with the lease ending on December 31, 2026. Janice Matthews, a spokeswoman for Newport Creamery, stated that staff were notified of the closure last week. The company seeks a new location in Cranston, highlighting its commitment to remaining in the area. The Garden City Center location is one of ten for Newport Creamery, which includes eight in Rhode Island and two in Massachusetts. The restaurant chain has been owned by The Jan Companies since its purchase following bankruptcy in 2001.
Garden City Center's management has not disclosed what will replace Newport Creamery. The center is currently 90% leased, and recent developments include the upcoming opening of Anna's Taqueria after a fire destroyed the previous tenant, Applebee's. This transition reflects ongoing changes in the shopping center as it adapts to evolving consumer preferences.
