City of Providence Officials Urge Community Members to Exercise Caution During Extreme Heat Conditions

Providence, RILocal News

Providence officials activated cooling centers and splash pads due to an Extreme Heat Warning from June 23 to June 25, 2025, with heat index levels projected between 100-110 degrees. Mayor Brett P. Smiley and the Providence Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) emphasize the importance of safety during this extreme weather. Cooling centers will offer free bottled water and allow only certified service animals. Various water parks will also remain open, while some parks like James Ahearn Park will not.

Residents are urged to stay indoors, hydrate, and limit strenuous outdoor activities. The elderly and those with health issues are particularly at risk during this heat wave. Residents can sign up for up-to-date alerts through the CodeRED emergency notification system. For non-emergencies, PVD311 is available for assistance.
