Portland, ORLocal News

U. S. marshals and local police arrested Loony John Franklin Toon, 42, on Monday after a three-day manhunt that began when he fired shots at officers during a high-speed chase. The Milwaukie Police Department reported that the chase started when officers attempted to pull him over for an active felony warrant early Friday morning. Despite police deploying spike strips, Toon reached speeds of 80 mph while discharging his firearm at pursuing officers.

He abandoned his vehicle near Eastmoreland golf course and escaped, leading to a search that initially failed to locate him. On Monday, police executed a search warrant at the Doug Fir Apartments in Sandy, where they apprehended him without further incident. Toon now faces multiple charges, including first-degree attempted murder and fleeing from police. According to police, no officers sustained injuries during the incident, highlighting the dangerous nature of the chase. Such violent encounters with law enforcement raise concerns about public safety and the need for effective policing strategies.
