Portland, ORLocal News

Multnomah County voters approved a $1. 8 billion school bond for Portland Public Schools in the May 20 special election, with nearly 59 percent casting their votes in favor. The bond aims to fund essential construction, remodeling, and safety upgrades at various schools. Voter turnout reached nearly 25 percent, bolstered by a significant influx of ballots received on Election Day. The election also included contests for several school board positions, with four of the seven seats available in the Portland district.

Superintendent Kimberlee Armstrong thanked the community for their commitment to public education, emphasizing that safe and modern schools benefit every child. Other school districts, like David Douglas, had several uncontested seats, reflecting varying levels of electoral engagement. The Multnomah County Elections Office will certify final results by June 16. These developments highlight the community's ongoing investment in educational infrastructure and leadership.
