JinJu Patisserie, and chef Timothy Wastell win James Beard awards
JinJu Patisserie, a Korean-inspired dessert shop in Portland, secured the James Beard Award for Outstanding Bakery at the 35th annual awards ceremony held in Chicago. Co-founders Jin Caldwell and Kyurim "Q" Lee expressed their gratitude to the Portland community during their acceptance speech, highlighting the support they’ve received since opening in 2019. Additionally, Timothy Wastell of Antica Terra winery won the Best Chef award for the Northwest and Pacific, outperforming competitors like Ryan Roadhouse of Nodoguro and Josh Dorcak of MÄS, both of whom had previous nominations. This recognition solidifies Portland's status as a hub of culinary innovation in the United States. Despite some local establishments not winning, such as Coquine and Scotch Lodge, their nominations underscore the vibrant food scene in the Rose City.
Coquine chef Katy Millard has been recognized multiple times for her commitment to seasonal cooking. The James Beard Foundation, named after the prominent Portland-born chef and food writer, celebrates excellence in the culinary arts. The event continues to showcase the depth and creativity of Portland’s food culture.
