Portland, ORLocal News

On June 14, 2025, two men, Ginovanni Joseph Brumbelow and Joshua Ames Cartrette, were arrested during a protest outside the ICE facility in South Portland, which was part of the nationwide "No Kings" rallies against the Trump administration. They faced federal charges for assaulting federal officers and appeared in court on June 16. The protest drew several thousand participants, and police declared it a riot after violence erupted around 6:40 p. m. Prosecutors stated that Brumbelow assaulted an officer with a wooden stake, while Cartrette allegedly pushed an agent and kicked tear gas canisters.

Law enforcement reported that protesters hurled fireworks, rocks, and bottles at the facility, breaching a door and reaching the lobby before being pushed back. Brumbelow's felony charge could lead to an eight-year prison sentence, while Cartrette faces a misdemeanor charge with a one-year maximum sentence. The event highlights ongoing tensions surrounding immigration policies and protests against federal enforcement actions. Both men were released on conditions pending their next court appearances.
