Portland to get rid of fees for some tree permits

Portland, ORLocal News

Portland Parks & Recreation will eliminate many tree permit fees next month, aided by $400,000 from the Portland Clean Energy Community Benefits Fund. The Urban Forestry division will abolish fees for tree removal, replanting, and street tree pruning applications. Additionally, the replanting waiver application fee will drop from $100 to $50. City Forester Jenn Cairo emphasized that these permit fees have placed a burden on residents. The new funding will help simplify the process of managing trees, enhancing safety and environmental health in the city.

This move responds to long-standing resident frustrations over high costs and tedious bureaucratic processes associated with the tree code. Furthermore, the agency plans to revise its tree code early next year to improve tree management. These changes signify a commitment to fostering a greener Portland.
