This initiative focuses on establishing an industrial symbiosis ecosystem in Portland's Columbia Corridor aimed at reducing carbon emissions while promoting economic development in disadvantaged communities. The funding will aid in building a robust business network to implement sustainable practices that benefit both the environment and local workforce.

Commissioner Carmen Rubio emphasized the importance of collaboration in driving profitability and creating good-paying jobs while making positive environmental impacts. The project is part of the Clean Industry Initiative, which seeks to transition Portland's industrial sector towards a cleaner future. As the team progresses to the PROGRESS Phase, they will work on implementing their community projects and report back in July 2024 for additional funding opportunities. Corky Collier, Executive Director of Columbia Corridor, expressed optimism about the initiative's potential to expand jobs and improve the environment through manufacturing collaboration. The Clean Industry Initiative also aims to ensure a just transition for workers and communities affected by the climate crisis.
